The many facets of healthcare provide a varied range of health science career choices. The changing lifestyle landscape has created growing demand for well-qualified health science professionals.

Ministry of Health (MOH), Singapore Health Services (SHS), National Healthcare Group (NHG), National University Health System (NUHS), Alexandra Health (AH) and Jurong Health Services (JHS) are offering scholarships to GCE 'A' level students with excellent results to pursue health science courses in polytechnics and universities. Every health science field that you find exciting, you will also be challenged by a rewarding career that illuminates the life of those you care for.

Area of Study

Diagnostic Radiography

As a Diagnostic Radiographer, you will specialise in producing medical images, which assist in diagnosis of illnesses and injuries.

Dietetics

Dietitians assess the nutritional well-being of patients and tailor nutritionally-balanced meals to the needs of individual patient.

Medical Social Work

Social Workers care about people and the social conditions in which they live in. They are tasked primarily to assist people to manage their problems more effectively and improve social conditions.

Nursing

Nurses facilitate individuals to achieve a state of well-being by planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies and activities contributing to health and recovery from illness.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists treat those who are physically impaired to recover their lost functions if their disability is temporary and devise alternative ways of performing tasks if the disability is permanent.

Orthoptics

Orthoptists assess and treat patients, often young children who have problems with eye movement and coordination, such as a lazy eye or squint. They use a variety of techniques to correct such conditions. Orthoptists have an in-depth understanding of vision and how the eye works.

Pharmacy

Pharmacists are experts in drugs and medicine. They provide medical care and treatment to people, prepare medications according to prescriptions and advise on the use and effect of different drugs. They also manage the procurement of drugs.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists administer treatment to restore people with physical injuries or medical conditions back to their normal physical status.

Podiatry

Podiatrists treat conditions such as those resulting from bone and joint disorders as well as neurological and circulatory diseases.

Prosthetic & Orthotics

Prosthetists specialise in providing artificial limb (prostheses) for patients who are missing all or part of a natural limb. Orthotists provide protective, corrective and supportive braces and splints (orthoses) to patients who, because of muscle weakness or deformity, have disabling conditions of the limbs or spine.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapists are trained in all aspects of the treatment for cancer patients. They are highly skilled professionals who work the state-of-art computerised radiation equipment to give the necessary radiation dose to their patients precisely.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapists evaluate and treat all types of patients ranging from premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed to elderly people whose lungs are diseased. They are experts in airway management and vascular access.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapists diagnose and provide treatments related to speech, language, communication, cognition and swallowing disorders.

Types of Scholarship

1. Local
Pursue a degree in a local university.

2. Local - 3+1
Pursue a 3-year diploma in a local polytechnic and convert to a 1-year degree programme in an overseas university.

3. Overseas
Pursue a degree at overseas reputable universities in Australia, UK and USA.

Place of Study

Award holders should pursue their undergraduate programmes at reputable local or overseas institutions.

Students without confirmed places for undergraduate study, will be offered conditional awards, if found suitable.

Bond Duration

Upon graduation, award holders will be bonded for periods that vary with their period and country of study.

4 years 6 years

Scholars will have the opportunity to work in the Ministry of Health, MOH Holdings, restructured hospitals, national specialty centres and research institutions.

Attachment Opportunities

Scholars have the opportunity to go on attachments within the public healthcare sector prior to the start of their studies and during their vacations. This will give them a chance to gain first-hand exposure in healthcare.
