Report: Delivering quality care sustainably in Singapore
MOHH supported the Centre for Sustainable Medicine at NUS to produce one of the first comprehensive national studies on healthcare system emissions in Southeast Asia.
As the Ministry of Health's strategic operating partner and the holding company for Singapore's public healthcare institutions (PHIs), MOHH provides strategic coordination, data consolidation, and policy alignment to support national decarbonisation goals amongst the PHIs.
In collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Medicine at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, MOHH facilitated data sharing across our healthcare clusters NHG Health, National University Health System, and SingHealth, and the Agency of Logistics and Procurement Services for one of the first comprehensive national studies of healthcare system emissions in Southeast Asia.
The report highlights some of MOHH's ongoing efforts to drive sustainability across Singapore's healthcare ecosystem. At the core of these efforts are our Sustainability Office and our Healthcare Infrastructure Projects Division, which drive initiatives such as:
- Tracking environmental performance across PHIs, including energy, water, waste and carbon metrics, and reporting on climate-related risks, governance structures, and emissions.
- Coordinating sector-wide efforts through the MOH Sustainability Steering Committee, annual Resource Management Plans, and feasibility studies for infrastructure improvements.
- Embedding sustainability in healthcare infrastructure via our Green Frontiers Framework, including the standardisation of sustainable design parameters across new developments and piloting whole-of-life carbon accounting.
- Innovating for the future and optimising energy savings through smart technologies, solar PV (photovoltaic) deployment, and continuous learning on emerging technologies and low-carbon construction materials.
These efforts reflect MOHH's commitment to embedding sustainability in the sector and building a climate-resilient, future-ready public healthcare system for Singapore.
