Talk on Introduction of Actuarial Tables on the Assessment of Damages for personal injury and death claims
The talk by Mr Mathew Saw, Partner, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Lee & Lee was held on 11 May 2021, 9.30am (via Zoom) and well attended by the Legal and Medical Affairs/Clinical Services colleagues from the various public healthcare institutions. The talk provided an overview of the multiplier-multiplicand approach used to determine the quantum of certain "big ticket" items of damages in personal injury and death claims and how to use the actuarial tables developed by the Personal Injury (Claims Assessment) Review Committee that is effective from 1 April 2021 onwards.

Talk on The Civil Law (Amendment) Bill & Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill
The talk by Ms Kuah Boon Theng, Managing Director, Legal Clinic LLC, Senior Counsel, who is also the co-chair of the MOH Workgroup that reviewed the taking of informed consent and SMC disciplinary process, will highlight the main features of the Bills and what it means for the healthcare professionals in terms of the standard of care that they have to meet in giving medical advice to their patients.
