The Healthcare Humanity Awards (HHA) is a continuing legacy of the Courage Award by the Courage Fund. Set up in 2003, the Courage Award recognised healthcare workers who displayed extraordinary courage and selfless dedication in their fight against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in Singapore.

In 2004, The Courage Fund established the HHA to pay tribute to outstanding healthcare professionals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to offer care and comfort to those in need. In 2016, the HHA was expanded to include care providers beyond healthcare, in line with the “beyond hospital to community” transformation direction. As of 2023, MOHH took on the responsibility of organising the HHA.

This year, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam presented the awards at the HHA ceremony, where 61 individuals and 16 teams were honoured in recognition of their unwavering commitment, selflessness, and for how they consistently prioritised the well-being of others above their own. “Each recipient of the Healthcare Humanity Awards has gone above and beyond, offering not just treatment but also comfort and hope to those in their care. They remind us that healing is as much about the heart as it is about the hands,” said President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The 2024 edition of the HHA saw an increase in awardees from community care, highlighting the growing recognition of their invaluable contributions to the healthcare ecosystem. It also introduced a change in the award categories to recognise the important virtues of Courage, Compassion, Selflessness, Resilience, and Teamwork possessed by healthcare workers. These recipients have been awarded for their significant contributions in developing better health in the community, which improves the quality of life for patients.
