Talk on The Civil Law (Amendment) Bill & Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill

On 6 October 2020, the Parliament passed the amendments to the Civil Law Act and Medical Registration Act with the aim to achieve two broad objectives:

First, is to set clear standard for Healthcare professionals' duty in giving medical advice to their patients; and second, to strengthen the medical disciplinary system through more effective enforcement of professional standards, more expeditious resolutions of complaints, and an increased transparency overall in the disciplinary process.

The talk by Ms Kuah Boon Theng, Managing Director, Legal Clinic LLC, Senior Counsel who is also the co-chair of the MOH Workgroup that reviewed the taking of informed consent and SMC disciplinary process, will highlight the main features of the Bills and what it means for the Healthcare professionals in terms of the standard of care that they have to meet in giving medical advice to their patients.
