HI•TEC 2014: Creating healthcare facilities of tomorrow

HI.TEC 2014

Healthcare Infrastructure Technology and Engineering Conference (HI•TEC) 2014 saw international industry leaders offering insights into the latest innovations in healthcare infrastructure design. Themed Practical Innovations in Healthcare Infrastructure, the event organised by HIPD, was held on Oct 28 and 29 at the Raffles City Convention Centre. Aside from an interesting lineup of keynote presentations, the event also featured stimulating panel discussions on innovations in architecture design, construction and engineering solutions and development in product technology.

Over 350 regional healthcare policy makers, leaders, academics and professionals in the healthcare infrastructure development industry were gathered at this thought leaders’ platform to learn and network.

Guest of honour, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Manpower Dr Amy Khor commenting on the use of implementation science methodologies in the design process said, “Healthcare facilities must be designed so that they cater to changing patient profiles and needs. They must also be able to support evolving models of care and not just current clinical practices, norms and guidelines.”

In his opening address, Chief Healthcare Infrastructure Projects Officer Koh Beng Thong stressed that every thread of the healthcare fabric, including the construction industry, is actively looking for better ways to bring innovative products, services and models to the market as future demands are constantly evolving to shape new models of care. He added, “The conventional methods in design and construction are no longer able to deliver the projects.”

In its third year, HI•TEC aims to promote Singapore as Asia’s leader in healthcare resources and to bring together a global community of healthcare thought leaders to exchange best practices in healthcare infrastructure excellence.
